It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!
All over social media I continue to see folks post about Christmas. Christmas is 4 months from today. Christmas is 3 months from today. Christmas merchandise is stocked at Target....you get the picture. So today I'm sorta thinking about Christmas.
As a child, Christmas was magical. Such a dreamy time of the year. Snow and Santa and Cookies and Gifts - it was all so wonderful. Then when I had children, I was able to have that experience again through their eyes.
But then my children became young adults. And so did my nieces and nephews. And Christmas took on a whole new meaning. It wasn't about gifts and "stuff" any more. It was about family, and fun, and experiences. So today I've been reminiscing about one of my favorite Christmases...Christmas 2015. That's when we decided that Christmas should be about experiences vs "stuff". We spent 9 amazing days in Walt Disney World and we did ALL THE THINGS! We did the Yuletide Magic tour, The Osborne Family Lights Show (complete with the Very Merry Dessert Party), Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (and my daughter and I cried when it snowed on Main Street), we Drank Around the World at EPCOT, attended the Candlelight Processional, visited all of the resorts to see their Gingerbread Houses, and to top it all off, my daughter and I made it for rope drop at Magic Kingdom on Christmas Morning. Talk about MAGICAL!!! It was honestly one of the best vacations and Christmases we've ever had. I know it's cliche, but the memories from that trip will last forever.
Since then, we have spent the last few years taking family vacations for Christmas. My kids love it way more than getting gifts (that they really don't need). For example - Christmas 2016 was spent on a Disney Very Merrytime Cruise. On Christmas Eve my kids ran a 5K on Disney's private island, and then my son went parasailing. Who else can say they went parasailing in the Bahamas on Christmas Eve?? We also spent the day on the adult beach, where the cast members came out into the ocean to bring you drinks - what???? And we had Christmas Eve dinner at the always amazing Palo restaurant on board the ship. What a spectacular evening. Christmas day Santa was on board passing out cookies and hot cocoa, while most of the guests on board ran around in their Christmas Jammies! Seriously - so fun!
So now I'm sitting here with a silly smirk on my face, and remembering how much different Christmas is for us now. It's different, yet fabulous
. We love that we get to focus on the time just the 4 of us are spending together. No stressing about buying gifts, and making sure everyone has an equal amount of "stuff", and will so-and-so like what I got them...blah, blah, blah. Just the 4 of us, being PRESENT with each other. The best gift of all!
Now....where should we go THIS year????
